PRAYING FOR THE CHILDREN

Parenting is a serious job and needs the help of God to succeed.  Satan the devil is after the life and destiny of our children.  Most of them have great destinies that make the devil shiver.
Life is a battle field and only those battle ready on their knees will win by the help of God.  Raising children is easier on our knees.  Prayer takes care of everything and things will get a lot better if only we pray.  You will find out that some of your best parenting happens when you are humbly bent down on your knees.  I will encourage you to set up a weekly fast day to pray for the life and destiny of the children.  You will be surprised at the powerful impact prayers will have on your children.  There will be immediate results and results that will last for the rest of their lives.
There was a time I tried correcting a particular attitude in the lives of my children.  I talked about it severally, no result.  I screamed, shouted, yet no result.  I was amazed at the change I saw when I began to pray to God about it.  The effects of praying for our children can never be over emphasized.  Lives are transformed at the place of prayer.  Destinies are recovered on our knees.

Benefits of praying for the children
1                      Lives are transformed at the place of prayer.
2                   The children learn praying from you as you keep praying for them and with them.
3                   Prayer molds the lives and destinies of the children.
4                  Prayer teaches the children total dependence on God.
5                   When the prayers are answered, they learn that God answers prayers indeed.
6                  Virtues are gotten at the place of prayer.

What exactly do we pray for;
a)     We make prophetic declaration in the lives of our children.  The prophetic blessing is a spoken declaration by a spiritual authority over the life of an individual.  The words of the blessing carry the power to control and direct the life of the person over whom they have been spoken.
The power and permanence of the Prophetic Blessing have been clearly charted over the centuries in sacred Scripture.  The Jewish people have obeyed the principles and received the benefits of the blessing.  This great potential has been greatly overlooked by most Christians.  The priestly blessing in Numb 6:24-26, The Lord bless you.. works as the Lord commanded.  As the man is the head of the home and the priest (1Peter 2:9) of his house, he is expected to make prophetic declaration over his children and other members of his family.  There is power in the words of the tongue. Parental blessings and prayers go a long way in the lives and destinies of our children.
b)     We pray for grace for genuine salvation in the lives of our children.  God do not have grand-children, no matter how we know this God, it is important that our children know the Lord for themselves. Before we lead them to Christ, it is important we handle it first on our knees. Salvation is therefore by GRACE through GENUINE faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8,9).
Father, I ask for grace of genuine salvation for my children, in the name of Jesus.
c)     Pray that they stand strong in faith as they run the race. We already know how difficult it is to live with integrity in a world loaded with stumbling blocks that trip us at every turn. So pray with and for your children – that they have the necessary tools (faith, education, family support, good friends, tenacity, etc.) to resist.
d)    Pray for preservation of life and destiny.  The scripture says that the devil’s three fold ministry is to steal, kill and destroy.  We have to pray that this satanic ministry will not come near our children.
Father, I ask that you satisfy my children with long life, deliver them always from trouble. (Psalm 96:15-16).
Father, I ask that as the mountain surround Jerusalem, that you surround my children with divine protection in Jesus name.
e)    Pray for passion for the things of the Lord for the children.  Sometimes we are worried that our children are not interested in the things of God like we are.  If we talk to God about it instead of complaining about it, we will see the hand of God make a difference.
Father, I receive passion for the things of the Lord for my children in Jesus name.  John 2:17.
f)     Pray that they grow in the Lord.  Growing in the Lord is essential so that they will not be swept away by every wind of doctrine.  This is important to avoid falling off from faith.
Father, I receive consistent spiritual growth for my children in Jesus name. 2 Pet 3:18
g)     Pray that they serve the Lord.  It is a privilege to serve in the house of God, we should prayerfully encourage our children to serve in the house of God.
Father, I receive the grace for kingdom service for my children in the name of Jesus. Ps 2:11.  Let them serve you whole heartedly, Lord.
h)     Pray that they fulfill their days and their destiny.  The devil’s mission is to steal kill and destroy but we enforce abundant life by the spoken words.  The spoken word is a weapon of warfare.  In Ephesians 6:13, 17-20,   In commanding us to arm ourselves with the ‘sword of the Spirit’, Paul was not telling us to fight ‘against the wiles of the devil’ by throwing our bible at him, NO.  These verses command us to fight the devil by boldly opening our mouths and literally speaking the Word of God.
Psalm 91:16 assures us that God will satisfy us with long life.  It is important to declare this scripture into the lives of our children.
Father, I receive fulfillment of days and destiny for every child you have given me in Jesus name.
i)       Pray that they make godly and good choices.  Choices make or mar destinies.  Divine direction is one of the privileges of being part of the Kingdom.  We should pray always that our children make good choices in choosing their friends, their careers, marital partners.
Father, I pray that there shall be no error or mistake in the decisions of my children.  I ask for divine direction for them in Jesus name.

Finally, the importance of praying for our children cannot be over emphasized.  The list of prayer points can never be exhausted.  It is also necessary to pray from the scriptures.  Scripturally based prayers are more likely to be God’s will than our thought based prayers.  Remember 1 John 5:14, we must pray according to His will to receive answers.  Remember that what prayer cannot handle, more prayers will handle it.
